GPS time clock app

A GPS time clock app with geofenced clock-in

Draw a circle around the site, choose whether an outside punch is flagged or refused, and every punch records where it happened. It answers "were they there?" without anyone driving by to check.

The team punches list showing a punch flagged as outside the site's geofence

What you get

  • Geofence radius per site, drawn on a map
  • Three modes: record location only, flag outside punches, or require on site
  • Punch location shown on a map for managers
  • Location captured at the moment of the punch, never between punches
  • Works from the iPhone and Android apps and from a browser
  • Employees are told when a site requires location and why

Choose how strict each site should be

Some sites only need the record. Others want a flag for a manager to review when a punch comes from across town. Some need the punch refused unless the employee is inside the fence. Each is a site setting, so a job site can be strict while the head office is not.

Because each customer location, job site or store can be its own site with its own geofence, one crew can punch at several places in a day, and the hours roll up on a single time card.

Honest about what is recorded

9forty5 records the location of a punch, and only at the moment of the punch. It does not track a phone in the background, between punches, or after the shift. The employee sees when a site requires location and what it is used for, which is what most state privacy rules expect and what keeps the feature from becoming a grievance.

Accuracy you can plan for

The phone's GPS is accurate to a few meters outdoors and worse inside a large building or a basement. Set the radius with that in mind: a storefront can use a tight circle, a warehouse or a campus a wider one. A browser punch uses the browser's location permission and is less precise than the app.

Good to know before you start

What it does not do matters as much as what it does.

  • GPS accuracy drops indoors. Use a wider radius for large buildings, or flag rather than refuse.
  • Geofencing is checked when the punch is made. It is not continuous tracking, and there is no route history.
  • A refused punch needs a manager to add it by hand if the employee really was on site but had a poor signal.

Frequently asked

Yes. Set the site to require on-site punches, and a clock-in outside the geofence is refused with a clear message to the employee.

No. Location is captured when a punch is made, only when the site has location turned on. There is no background tracking.

Yes. Every site has its own location and radius, and its own rule for what happens to a punch outside it.

The app asks the phone for location permission and tells the employee when a site requires it. Check your state's notice rules for employee monitoring; some require written notice.

Both. The browser uses its location permission. The mobile apps use the phone's GPS and are more accurate.
