Overtime calculator by state
Type a week of hours, pick the state, and see how they band into regular, overtime and double time. Federal weekly rules plus the daily rules of California, Alaska, Nevada, Colorado and Oregon manufacturing.
An estimate for planning. Rate-based tests, alternative workweeks and industry exemptions are not modelled.
| Day | Worked | Regular | Overtime 1.5× | Double 2× |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mon | 9 | 9 | 0 | 0 |
| Tue | 9 | 9 | 0 | 0 |
| Wed | 10 | 10 | 0 | 0 |
| Thu | 8 | 8 | 0 | 0 |
| Fri | 8 | 4 | 4 | 0 |
| Sat | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Sun | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Week | 44 | 40 | 4 | 0 |
Paid-hour equivalent: 46 hours at the regular rate. 9forty5 does this from punches, pair by pair, with meal breaks and holidays included, and exports each band to payroll in its own column.
How the calculation works
In California, the seventh consecutive day worked in a workweek is paid at 1.5× for the first 8 hours and 2× beyond. Kentucky has a simpler seventh-day rule at 1.5×.
It is a simplified model for estimating. It ignores alternative workweek agreements, industry exemptions, rate-based tests and meal-break premiums. 9forty5 computes the real figure from punches as the day is worked.
